American Staffordshire Terrier

Sex: Female

Bugs been with us going on 5 years and is an extremely smart and intuitive companion. She has pretty strong separation anxiety although we've been working on that with some success. She has history of abuse during the first 6 months of her life, although the true extent is not known. She's fearful of loud noises (thunder, fireworks, etc.) and will pant and tremble pitifully until it subsides. Disagreements, yelling, angry voices have the same effect... If she's not secured inside or on a leash when encountering these situations, she will RUN... Fast and far and you'll only find her when she's ready to be found. On the flip side she loves to cuddle! She's needs constant contact to feel secure. It could be simple as sliding her head over close to your leg on the couch or stretching a paw out across your foot on the floor... Her favorite thing is burrowing behind you and snuggling down and taking a nap. She loves to chase a ball, a rope, or a laser pointer. She can definitely be animal aggressive however she generally stands quietly and watches another dog being walked without a problem until they start barking and then she tends to respond louder more aggressive sounding and intimidating. She's very protective of me when I'm walking her on a leash. Attempting to approach me brings out an aggressive vicious sounding guard dog. She gives all the outward appearances that she will bite however I've always kept her very close at hand and she has never actually bitten anybody. It breaks my heart to let her go... However due to medical reasons of my own (seizures) and her unpredictable nature, it is crucial I find her another home. She's been my best friend for 5 years and she may be a little rough around the edges as well as a bit misunderstood... I have realized....so am I. She truly doesn't need to be around children, they seem to put her on edge immediately. She definitely needs some training or to be with someone that has experience with aggression. If I could go back 5 years I would take her to professional training from the beginning. Unfortunately in hindsight I can see how it would have definitely been beneficial.
