About Jack

Adoption Fee: $75
Basset Hound / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Jack is presumed be a Basset Hound Blue Heeler Mix (Basset Heeler). He is neutered and approximately 4 and a half years of age. He is well socialized and enjoys other dogs. He loves to go to dog parks. However, I think he would do best in a household as an only dog or with dogs of similar temperament. He is not good with small children, but I think he would be fine with an older child. He lives with a cat currently, and he has no issues with cats. Jack is up-to-date on his vaccinations as of 1/15/21, and he recently had his teeth cleaned. He does have seasonal allergies, so regular vet visits are a must. If he is not consistently treated for his allergies, he develops eye infections and hacks. He is also prone to gastrointestinal issues, but that is managed well through a salmon and potato based dry food from tractor supply. When he seems constipated, I give him the same food, but in canned form. Jack was previously abused, so he has anxiety about large, loud households. He also has separation anxiety, which he has a prescription for Trazadone to help treat. He is crate-trained to help combat his separation anxiety, but he does best when left alone outside of his crate. His bad behaviors are: barking when left alone inside crate, getting into trash can/ accessible food, and eliminating in the house. These behaviors can be addressed through use of trazadone when planning to leave him alone and having a locking lid on a kitchen trash can. He is housetrained, the only time he uses the bathroom in the house is if he has not gone out already that day and is left alone in the house without any medication. Overall, he is a very good dog. He doesn't bark unless he is excited and playing or when he is left alone in a crate. He likes to go for car rides and hiking. He walks well on a leash, and he is reliable off leash as well. He knows his name and the sit command. He is a friendly, sensitive, and sweet dog that loves to snuggle with blankets. He likes to cuddle, and he will happily sleep at the foot of your bed, if you let him. He likes to chew on bully sticks and bones. Occasionally, he likes to play with furry squeaky toys, but he moreso likes to play with other dogs (hence the dog park). He doesn't like water, but he has no issues taking baths. An ideal arrangement for Jack would be with a small family or couple that has the ability to not leave him alone for extended periods of time. They will need to be patient and familiar with positive reinforcement (because he was previously abused, he is sensitive to scolding). He will take some time to adjust, and I want to make sure he finds a good home. I hope that your organization will be able to help me. With Jack, I can provide his food, toys, treats, crate, crate mattress/bedding, and his medications.
