About Rico Suave

Please meet Rico Suave...a feisty (and sometimes lovable), little 8-10 year old male chihuahua. Rico currently weighs 5 lbs. and has apparently had a very rough life prior to being rescued. This little fellow was deliberately tossed out of a car onto a main highway in front of his foster mom's home. A good Samaritan stopped traffic to rescue him from oncoming traffic. He was completely covered in fleas, malnourished, dehydrated, anemic, and blood stained (from flea infestation). He was apparently seriously neglected both physically and emotionally, as this little guy had no socialization skills (with humans or other animals) up until the point he was rescued. He was rescued February 2021 and neutered as soon as he was healthy enough and at the ideal weigh to undergo surgery. Rico is surprisingly heart worm negative. He is VERY insecure and untrusting. He does not have a fondness of strangers and does not like men. Rico is also having trouble mastering house training...he has an issue with marking (most likely from being intact for so many years). Rico would be considered 'special needs' emotionally and will only be placed into a home with someone experienced with chihuahuas and dogs with severe insecurities. Rico is not available on a 'first come, first serve' basis, but rather will be adopted only to a home that would be a suitable match for him. That home would need to be quiet, with a consistent routine in order for this older little guy to thrive. He really is a loving little guy despite his undesirable behaviors.
