About Jax

Adoption Fee: $100
Mastiff mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Jax is a very sweet and affectionate dog to people he feels safe with. We adopted him from a local shelter, but we cannot keep him because he needs training and guidance that we are just not equipped to give him. We do not want to return him to the humane society because we fear that he will be put down due to the fact they do not have the means to give him the training he needs to help him get over his fears of new people. He is people selective at times and has a protective drive that he has shown once in our home. He was abused by his former owners, and had been kept tied up on a very short leash so he has visible scares from years of being tied up. We need to find him a new home due to the fact he is too much dog for us and has a fear of new people and can show aggression when we have company over. We do put a muzzle on him or we put him in a crate when there are people over that Jax does not know because he reacts aggressively when they are here and he does good with it.. He does relax in his crate and with the muzzle on and is safe for people to be around as long as you keep him away from new people. Jax needs a home with a male or female that is familiar with this breed of dog and can work with Jax regularly to give him the training and support he needs to work through his fear of new people. He seems to respond best with an alpha male person who understands that Jax is scared and knows what to do when Jax shows signs of aggression. Jax has protective drive when he is with the people he loves, so a muzzle is needed to keep others safe when he is exposed to new people. He does great with the muzzle on and as long as you keep him on a leash and tell people to please keep back then Jax is calm and is relaxed. If someone tries to get close or tries to pet him before he is familiar with them and feels safe, then he will try and lunge at them and gives them scary warning barks. Jax is a big love bug with the people he feels safe with and is easy to walk on a leash. He is potty trained and knows sit and lay down. Jax is very smart, learns things quickly and is treat motivated. He loves belly rubs, and is very playful. He is a big talker and does a great job of letting you know what he is wanting. Jax would do best with an adult only home. He will need behavioral training to keep him safe and the people around him safe. He does great for his walks and is fine around people and dogs on the walks as long as people don't try to approach him. Just walking by people and dogs is fine as long as you stay aware he is scared of new people and you tell people to please not approach your dog. This big guy needs a home who will give him guidance , patience, love and training. Without it this poor guy could sadly end up with a sad fate. Please contact us if you are interested in giving our sweet guy the home he desperately needs.
