Be sure to read ALL information provided. A PET IS FOR LIFE - THINK ABOUT THE INVESTMENT! NINA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs can often have only 3 days to be saved. NINA is spayed rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick disease tested negative for all. She is de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. At the time of rescue in the middle of February 2021, she weighed around 55.00 pounds and has an estimated date of birth 1 January 2019 . We cannot say for sure what breed she is, so we expect families to do their own research on her look and size and decide what breed you think she is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for her needs. Nina was adopted on 27th March to a wonderful family, but sadly they are having to bring her back on 13 April since Nina is not getting along with the doxie. The family have said that Nina is very friendly and loves people, she is very smart and learns quickly, is housetrained and will whine or pace when she wants to go out. When put in her crate she does whine a little initially and she does shed a lot. When outside she was caught digging a few times, but was moved away and was fine. Since being back NINA is doing good, she has gained weight and filled out beautifully. She was in her own kennel, but enjoyed playing outside up and down the runs with her neighbours and recently she was put in together with CLANCY another White GSD who she had been neighbours too since she got back. They are doing great and within an hour of being together, they were rolling around the floor wrestling. Just like humans, dogs don't like everyone (dog or human) that they meet. So far she is having a great time with Clancy, so it might be that she isn't fond of smaller dogs. Initial Bio before Adoption NINA has been at the rescue since the end of February and has been doing great. She was initially in a kennel, but as we had more dogs adopted she was moved to a communal area. She was fine with other dogs, but did occasionally get protective and so we felt it safer to put her back in a double kennel. NINA is very affectionate, sweet and loving, she is extremely thin and malnourished and so it is very important that her family understand and are committed to giving her a healthy diet so that she can gain weight in a healthy manner. She is eating and drinking great whilst here and so it is just a matter of time, patience and healthy nutritious food. We are looking for an active family for NINA, however, until she has gained weight she will just need moderate exercise so that she can build up her muscle and gradually become a happy, healthy, active girl. We feel that with all that NINA has been through she would be best as an only dog so that she can enjoy being spoiled and not feel that she has to protect what is hers, which can be common when dogs have been starved so much. NINA is deserving of a perfect family that will love her and give her all the she needs, lots of adventures, road trips, socialization to different people, places, animals and eventually play dates with other dogs, but most importantly a family committed to training her, keeping her happy, healthy and active. All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed. You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the '3 Point Rule' Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3 month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. ALL dogs are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas, or other locations, countries to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
