About Mikey

Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Emergency foster or adopter needed for an active boy who can't handle shelter life. PLEASE apply today! Look at that face! And those ears? Mikey is simply irresistible. Playful and active, he would make a great sibling for another fur kid who also has energy to burn! This social, rambunctious, and goofy young boy is a 2-year old, 60-ish pound, male gray and white pittie currently at the Gardner, MA animal shelter. Mikey was surrendered for no fault of his own, but he is not tolerating being kenneled and needs saving from an environment that is upsetting him more and more each day. He is bored, frustrated, and eager for activity. The animal control officers say he's a good dog otherwise. He has shown promise with some basic skills they have been able to teach him and is able to be redirected. When exercised, his excitement dissipates. His fosters/adopters will need to help him forget all about this jumpy, mouthy behavior so he can be the Mikey he was destined to be! This should have been corrected as a puppy. Now that he is bigger in size it's not so cute. When he wants attention he will mouth on your hands or arm, though he does not bite to harm - he is just desperate to have fun. The staff at Gardner say if he gets the physical activity he needs, he'll be a great dog. In the shelter he can't get as much attention as he could in a home and as a result it is affecting his ability to stay focused and calm. The ideal home for this busy boy will have a place to run, jump, and play to his heart's content. A fenced yard is preferred or an area in which he can be exercised often. Behind that energy, he's your 'average Joe' pittie, meaning he has typical breed characteristics of being a steadfast companion. Mikey would thrive with a foster or adopter who enjoys playful dogs, but who can teach him good manners. Because of his current behavior, he must not live with children. A compatible young and playful dog would be a benefit to Mikey. No cats. Mikey was recently neutered, is up-to-date on his vaccines, and in great health. He is house trained, keeps his kennel clean and is not destructive in his kennel. Please apply here: https://tiny.cc/ARK-Application #ARKforMikey #JustSaveThem
