About Luke

Meet Luke. He is a 3.5 years old Australian Cattledog who weighs about 43 pounds. Luke knows all of his basic commands: sit, stay, down, wait, watch, bed, crate, easy, switch- to switch sides of walking to avoid others, sniff, off- use to leave whatever is on the ground alone, take it. He also knows a lot of tricks: shake-either paw, roll over and crawl-pretty good, beg- sit up a little, stand, walk it-top of a low wall or curb- probably his favorite thing to do on a walk, over to jump over low walls. Click on the red YouTube button to see Luke rolling over. He is house and crate trained. He loves his crate. Luke is looking for a home where his people are solid leaders. In a home like that, he won't feel as nervous. His trainer tells us that she treats him like a Cattledog and he does well at daycare. Because Luke is sensitive and can be nervous if he doesn't feel like he has solid leadership from his people, he is looking for a home without kids, no more than three people, and without a lot of entertaining. He would prefer a quiet neighborhood or country lifestyle. He is slow to warm up to new folks and loud people make him nervous. Luke can be leash reactive walking past other dogs, and again this comes down to leadership. The trainer at daycare doesn't have this challenge but she also shows him that he is safe with her. He does fine at daycare with others calm and respectful dogs and also lives with a small dog; however, he prefers a home where he can be the one and only. Likewise, he isn't a fit for a home with a cat. Luke would make a good pal for someone who wants a low key Cattledog, since he isn't into fetching and doesn't seem to have the energy to be a running or hiking partner. Walks are more his style. He is a low key kind of guy. Additionally, he isn't allowed toys since he tends to guard them. He isn't super into playing with toys, anyhow. His favorite game is chase/hide-and-seek with his person, where he can find his person hiding in a corner. He thinks this is a ton of fun. Luke has corrected his people when he doesn't want his feet cleaned and if there are sudden movements that scare him. He is best in a Cattledog savvy home who understands this breed. Like some Cattledogs, grooming is best done with a muzzle on. Luke's ideal home is quiet, knows this breed, isn't super active, and wants a dog pal to hang out with. For that home, Luke is very eager to please and even gives kisses on command. Luke is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is located in Cypress. Adopters must be able to meet and adopt here. We do not ship our dogs. A home visit and vet reference are required.
