About Kenmore (west)

Hi, my name is KENMORE - ID#A4533951. I am a neutered male, tan and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 3 months old, and I have been at the shelter since Jan 30, 2021. Recent notes about Kenmore: 2/8/2021 EVALUATION Trembling, wide eyed on handler approach; startled easily; nervous, pulled on leash; did not seek attention but tolerated petting in side yard; attempted to back out of leash placement; high arousal in catch pen - sent back, will try again. 2/9/2021 EVALUATION Tensed when unfamiliar handlers walk by on way to yard; backed away from attempts to collar, wide eyed; handler eventually placed while dog was distracted; rushed into yard and quickly engaged in rough/rowdy play with social male dog; remained soft/playful with other dog for some time; inspected lead, then exited attempt to pet; over time tolerated petting but did not seek interaction, easily distracted. 2/10/2021 OBSERVATION Canine was came to front of kennel, excited, when handler approached. Easy to leash but pulled hard out of the kennel and out of the building. In yard canine got 'zoomies' and ran around exploring yard. Non affiliative with handler and uninterested in food. Handler walked canine out of the building to a quieter area. While canine was on leash, handler was able to pet canine. Canine allowed it but was distracted, hypervigilantly watching environment; softened slightly. No issues returning to kennel. 2/19/2021 ENRICHMENT Per volunteer Jennifer L: Calm tail wags on kennel pull. Easy pull. Pulled hard on exit to wing. Walked great on leash- a little jumpy with loud noises. Allowed petting- affectionate, sweet. Took treats gently. Easy return. We recommend Kenmore have an experienced handler as he will need socialization and in-home training. He will probably have to be the only dog in the home, and recommend only children over the age of 12. Please give Kenmore a chance. this may be the only one he gets.
