About ATTICUS-AR

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

ATTICUS was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. ATTICUS is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heartworm & tick disease tested, negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of July 2018 and he weighs around 67 pounds. Atticus was adopted on 18 July 2020 a few days after arriving at the rescue. Sadly at the beginning of April 2021 the family contacted the rescue stating that they are heartbroken, but they need to return him as their had been an incident with their 9 year old daughter. They have provided pictures of Atticus, whom they had named Hatchet. He had become a beloved member of the family who loves to play fetch and jump in the air for the ball. They did some basic training with a trainer and he was responsive, although they said he doesn't always do what is asked. He is protective of his home and family and so training and ensuring he understands that he doesn't need to protect anyone or anything and precautions taken at all times. Atticus is a young boy who needs an active lifestyle so that he is able to burn off his energy and also have some mental stimulation in going to different places and such. Any dog will be low energy if they are not given the lifestyle that they NEED to be healthy and equally mentally happy. We are looking for an active family that has the activity level that he needs and is able to provide him. We are looking for a family that is experienced and understands the German Shepherd, or working breed dog. Who understands that they can be protective and able to work with him. He can be nervous around new people and places so it is important that this area is also worked on. All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed. ATTICUS is available for an adoption fee of US $550 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of saving all of the dogs we do, the running, upkeep and maintenance of the rescue. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. All that is needed to take dogs into Canada is a copy of the adoption contract (receipt) and current rabies for pups over 3 months of age.
