About Kane

It's a puppertunity of a lifetime! Here's a great dog who's smart, eager, playful, and likes people! Kane is approximately 5 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. He is a bulldog/terrier mix located in a Bristol County, MA shelter for the past year after being surrendered by a family who could no longer keep him. Though Kane is ruggedly handsome and charismatic, he has yet to find his match. Kane has a great personality and the shelter staff adore him. He's adventurous and enjoys his play time as well as chilling out. He's a good walking partner who does well on leash with a martingale and easy walk combination or a gentle lead. Kane is food motivated, and thanks to the shelter staff he knows his basic commands: sit, off; sit/stay, off; leave it; and drop it. He is still a bouncy dog and would benefit from a basic obedience class. He's lived with two kids in the past, but any children should be age 10 and older due to his exuberance. Kane is not comfortable walking past the other kenneled dogs and has no experience with cats that we know of. For these reasons he'll need to be your one and only fur-kid. If there's one thing Kane would want you to know about him is that he LOVES playing with balls. He simply loves any kind of ball and playing fetch with them. And there lies the problem��%BD��%BD%BD'��%BD��%BD%BD|.and why he needs a timely adoption to save his life��%BD��%BD%BD'��%BD��%BD%BD| Ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time? Kane did on one very windy day in March while spending time outdoors with a potential adopter (mom, dad, and 8-year old girl). Kane was showing off his fetch skills in the shelter's outdoor space. The little girl was sitting nearby and wearing a winter hat - the kind with pom poms on top and hanging from a string. Get the picture yet? It happened too fast to be sure, but based on Kane's behavior record for the past year and devotion to anything ball, the staff believe he mistook the pom poms for balls, jumped up to get them, and punctured the girl near her eye with what they believe was his claw. When the dad pulled him back, Kane didn't react at all. (Kane has never shown aggression to other visitors or the staff in the past year and had no reported issues when surrendered to the shelter a year prior.) For anyone interested in helping Kane by fostering or adopting him, Kane will need you to (1) have experience with and enjoy active dogs, (2) provide a daily routine; (3) further his basic training, and (4) understand he will need a gradual transition to a home because he's been in a shelter for so long.
