Please read entire description. Dog's adoption fee is waived. He desperately needs a foster or adopter who can accommodate his needs. Please apply at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. **Only Dog***Physically fenced yard needed*** 'Dog' who has never really had a name but 'Dog' is a hard placement. We really aim to find that special place for him to live out the rest of his life. We met him recently and can't stop thinking about him. He is a 12 year old, medium sized Australian Shepherd / Cattle Dog mix looking for a new home. He is vision impaired and in need of some vetting that we would be happy to take care of if we can find someone to love Dog for the time he has left. Dog has primarily lived in a pen most of his life. In his younger days, he was able to follow his owner around the farm and help with tasks and keep them company. As he has aged and his vision has gotten poor; His owner's health has also declined. Going to the pen to care for him is getting harder and harder. Dog is friendly with strangers. He is very comforted in his space, but does light up with the attention he gets when his owner comes out to feed him and say hello. He follows her lead and sits when she asks. He takes food gently. He listens. He doesn't ask for much. Dog is not good with other dogs. He has not had any experience with cats and he hasn't had many opportunities to be around children. We would recommend Dog be around kids 10 and up that are more adult sized. Dog has never been inside, but we believe some sort of inside/outside type of setting would be ideal so he has air conditioning through the hot summers and warmth through the cold winters for the time he has left. Dog will likely need a few belly bands (we would provide) and will have to work on potty training since he hasn't had much opportunity to be in a house. From experience, the outside dogs that come inside... learn quickly. They are so used to pottying on the grass that they prefer that. Obviously, this is best for everyone. It just takes some patience and routine. Obviously, Dog will have some additional hurdles due to his blindness. He will need a physically fenced yard or area to be safe and once again patience and routine to learn the area in the house he will live in. If you have it in your heart to open your home to this senior in need and have the space to keep him safe and out of the extreme temperatures of Indiana in his senior age, that would be ideal. Dog's adoption fee is waived. We will provide some basic vetting once we find a spot for him to go. If interested, please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting.
