About Buddy

If interested, please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. We are requiring a physically fenced yard for Buddy in an only dog home. Meet Buddy. This handsome, 7 year old, 80 pound Shepherd mix is looking for a new home. Buddy requires being the only dog in the home. He is not good with other dogs and most importantly requires a physically fenced yard. Buddy can be a door darter and will need a managed plan in place with individuals in the house who can prevent this from happening. (Easy things like spring hinges on entry doors, using baby gates near the entryway etc) Essentially, this is why Buddy is looking for a new home. When loose he has gotten into scuffles and has gotten himself in trouble. Buddy has lived with cats in the past and has done fine, although he has not lived with cats recently. Buddy has lived with children of all ages in the past and has done very well. We would recommend children old enough to understand and be respectful of an older dog and not climb on him etc. He has never had any issues with humans and is a very happy-go-lucky boy. Buddy is house trained and trustworthy to be left out of a crate. He is laid-back and good with company. He prefers a comfy spot on the couch or on his favorite pet bed and enjoys patrolling the yard for squirrels. Buddy knows several commands and is very smart. He is very food motivated and can be very opportunistic if food is left out and unattended at his level. He has been known to snag a piece of pizza. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Physically, Buddy is in good health, but he did have an injury to his leg on on of his adventures and was treated by the vet. As a result, he now walks with a slight limp. He can no longer 'sit' as a command, but tries. Buddy is only good for short walks / hikes and is no longer a high adventure guy. He's happy with the more laid back, retired life. Buddy occasionally has #2 accidents when excited. This has been very manageable and intermittent. It would also likely be better controlled with having a fenced yard, good quality food, and feeding twice a day rather than free feeding. Buddy is good on leash, but he is reactive to other dogs that he sees. He is not ideal for walking in dog populated neighborhoods. Buddy's adoption fee is $150.
