TO BE KILLED 04/06/2021 Marvelous MARCO Lived With A Small Dog & Young Child! Will You Give this Shy Boy a Chance? Marco's got one of those sad faces that breaks hearts. Its like he misses someone he loved so much, but whats heartbreaking is that person must not miss him quite as much. If they did they wouldnt have left him here. All we can do is network Marco to the moon and back for a second chance in a home where he will never be abandoned or alone again. According to Marco's notes, he has been kept mostly outdoors so he may not even be use to being in a warm kennel, much less at a shelter. In spite of living outside, Marco's a smart boy who knows basic commands, enjoys toys and tennis balls and likes to play. At the shelter, Marco has done well. He doesn't mind being handled and will greet staff with a tail wag. Marco is also social and respectful with other dogs. With the right home, care and love this guy will do well in the right home. He's already got a chunky but muscular frame made for good hugs and snuggles. Lets advocate Marco far and wide for his hero and loving home. MARCO@BROOKLYN ACC Marco ID#110359, 3 years old, 73 lbs Large Mixed Breed, GRAY/WHITE unaltered male Came into shelter as a OWNER SURRENDER Medical Behavior: Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope only INTAKE DATE: 1/24/2021 PET PROFILE: My health has been checked. My vaccinations are up to date. My worming is up to date. I have been microchipped. A Little Bit About Me: Sweet, shy Marco was surrendered to the shelter due to his previous owner's failing health. Marco has shown some social behaviors with familiar staff in the care center, but remains fearful and avoidant of novel handlers and situations. He will need a slow, hands-off approach in any new environment to allow him to decompress at his pace. If given the chance, we know Marco would blossom in the right home. An adult-only home with an experienced foster who can provide further socialization and training would be best. Notes from our handlers: 3/4: Marco was leashed and came out of his kennel easily. Once inside of the pens with the drag leash attached he roamed around for a few reliving him self. Marco sat for treats. He did not engage in play but he did allowed pets all over while remaining loose and leaning into the pens. I attempted to pet Marco and he remained neutral but walked away. Marco gave no issues during the session and went back into his kennel easily. 2/24: Marco was laying down in his kennel but stood up when a handler unlocked his kennel. He was easily leashed and walked outside without any issues. once in the pens with two handlers they clipped a drag leash but continued to walk around holding the leash, feeding Marco treats for a few minutes. Once he seemed to be comfortable with both handlers they dropped the leash and allowed him to walk around. They entered the furthest pen to give Marco space to approach if he chose to. When called over and offered treats he slowly approached and took them. He was lured on top of the slide and allowed the handlers to take photos while accepting treats from their hand. Marco did not show interest in toys and accepted very brief pets on his head. At the end he was leashed and walked back inside the building, passing another staff member he was familiar with and he jumped up on them soliciting attention. Marco was then returned to his kennel. BEHAVIOR: Date of intake: 24-Jan-2021 Spay/Neuter status: No Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Owner Surrender (3 years) Previously lived with: 2 adults, 1 teenager, 1 child, 1 dog Behavior toward strangers: Shy and will sometimes bark when uncomfortable Behavior toward children: Tolerant but can play rough with 4 year old in the home Behavior toward dogs: Lived with small breed male dog, reported to be tolerant and respectful Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None Bite history: Marco has bitten two people in the past that resulted in broken skin requiring medical care. Housetrained: No Energy level/descriptors: High Other Notes: Marco is reported to bark and growl if someone unfamiliar approaches the house. SAFER ASSESSMENT: BEHAVIOR: Summary: Marco has been observed to warm up slowly to familiar handlers, taking some time to acclimate before seeking attention or displaying social behavior. When a new handler meets Marco he is tense and avoidant and continues to move away while hard staring. Out of concern for his overall stress level, an assessment will not be attempted at this time. DOG-DOG: Summary: According to Marco's previous owner, Marco has lived with a 5-year-old small male dog and was reported to be tolerant and respectful. 1/25: Due to a lack of appropriate greeters, a gate greet is conducted between Marco and a novel female dog. Marco approaches the gate with a high flagged tail, forward-facing body, and on the tips of his paws. Marco does walk away sniffing around the pens but returns with the same se
