TRUMAN - ID#A1968693 On March 22, TRUMAN had an adoption appointment, but the day before, his owner called the shelter to claim she had been looking for him for weeks, and she wanted to redeem him. For whatever reason, she couldn't go get him right away, so she requested an extension to hold him. And when the extension date arrived, another was requested. TRUMAN's owner did not come for him and he is officially available, again, for adoption/rescue. If you met him, you'd love him, too. But, when he entered the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, as a 'stray' on March 10, notes describe him as having fear anxiety; at times he refused to walk certain pathways and dropped to the floor; and he was very sensitive to touch and his body was very tense. During the last couple of days, I would stop at TRUMAN's kennel and he was usually in the cubby. When I offered him a treat, he'd come to the kennel door and gently take the treat from my hand. When taken out of the kennel and walked to the play yard, he didn't react to the other dogs, and he didn't appear to have fear anxiety. TRUMAN is 3-years-old and he's one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs. He did not appear to be sensitive to touch; in fact, he appeared to yearn to be petted. As I sat in a chair and called TRUMAN over, he came quickly, and put his head and paw on my leg. When I stopped petting him, he'd put his other paw on my leg. He's treat-motivated and he takes them gently. Just hanging with TRUMAN is a treat. It's true that TRUMAN is special and he needs a special person/family to love him, snuggle with him, and keep him safe, forevermore. My name is Truman and I am a male, tan . I will need minor medical care. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. I weigh approximately 67 pounds. I have been at the shelter since Mar 10, 2021. I am available on April 2, 2021. If you choose to adopt this animal, you must have him or her examined by your veterinarian within 72 hours. Further veterinary care MAY be required at your expense.
