Quaker (aka: Ernie) Let me introduce you to this big beautiful ginger boy. I have been fostering this little lover boy since the beginning of December. He was owner surrendered to Rescue Cats of Florida from a 'collector situation'. This group of cats were given names related to cereal. His name through our rescue is Quaker but I feel that he looks like an Ernie (regal like Ernest Hemmingway)'|although if you have treats he will come to you no matter what you call him. Ernie had some medical struggles in the beginning and was not initially ready for adoption. He came to stay with me (his foster mom) along with five other Persians that needed some additional time to get ready for their forever homes. Ernie is suspected to be about 7 years young and although he is very calm; he also still loves to play like a kitten. He loves belly rubs and chin scratches and he is a purring machine. Did I mention that he is gorgeous? Stunning ginger fur and big golden eyes. He will truly be missed when he finds his forever home. So, what are some things that you should know about Ernie besides how amazing he is? Well, Ernie has had a rough start in life and went several years without routine medical care. When he arrived to our rescue he had several infected teeth that had caused masses in his mouth. Ernie had to have all but four teeth removed. Does this slow him down? Short answer, no. He does have the cutest little 'blep' face as his tongue is always poking out. He does drool a wee bit'|but who doesn't love a little slobbery kisses? There is a downside though Ernie is stubborn and set in his ways in regard to what he wants for dinner. He doesn't like wet food at all and even though he only has four teeth. He insists on eating hard food (and don't even think about wetting it. He will not eat it) What can I say? He is a man that knows what he likes. After his surgery I started feeding him Royal Canin for Persians as the kibble is smaller and easier for him to eat. He also really enjoys Temptation Cat treats. I also want to make sure that his future adopters are aware that Ernie has struggled with chronic URI since I have had him. He has been on breathing treatments and antibiotics. His vet believes that he may have FHV (this is not contagious to humans) and has started him on medication to help ward off the URIs. This is really common for cats that have come from colonies or hoarding situations. It isn't deadly but he does often have watery eyes and sneezes a lot. I just give his face a good wipe down through out the day. Ernie is neutered and was previously front declawed. He is truly one of the best cats that I have ever had the good fortune to know. He does not have a mean bone in his body even though he has been through so much. He really appreciates the simple things in life a nice box, a soft bed, his cat tree and loving. He is great with other cats and kids. Please only inquire if you are able to maintain Ernie's medical care. His is still recovering from his journey and deserves a family that can commit to his love and care. He is an amazing cat and I am truly not just saying that.
