About Katsu

Adoption Fee: $100
American Staffordshire Terrier / Boston Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Katsu is a super sweet and loving dog in the home where all he wants is to be with you for cuddles and play with you. Katsu doesn't bark unless he needs to and is very confident in his own yard. He does have behavioral issues when outside his comfort zone or left alone. I took him in from a rescue in October 2020. He was found wandering the streets in Yakima, WA with an embedded collar around his neck. He most likely had to fend off other dogs to scavenge for food and was very opportunistic. He has separation anxiety but is on medication to help mitigate it. Katsu is not a bad or mean dog, he just gets scared. When outside on walks he has fear aggression with other dogs (especially those bigger than him) and people on bicycles/skateboards/scooters. Katsu will bark and lunge in these instances because he is scared and his mentality is that 'I will hurt you first before you hurt me'. There was an instance where he did bite another dog while we were on a hike. I moved Katsu off the trail (a good 6 feet) to let another dog-owner pass but they did not have control over their dog. The other dog got into Katsu's face and he bite the dog on the face. Katsu needs more help and support than what I can provide. I will not be able to keep him for much longer but I don't want to take him to a shelter with his bite history. Katsu would need someone who can commit time and energy to make him be the best dog I know he can be. Preferably with someone who works from home or stays home most of the time. Katsu has a lot of energy and is very strong so little children in the home would not be a good fit but he should do well with teenagers. Due to his breed and history as a street-dog, he shouldn't be in a home with cats and small critters; he might think them as food. He loves to chase squirrels, bunnies and birds (ducks and crows being a favorite). He also shouldn't be in a home with another dog until he is re-socialized. Katsu would require a 6 ft fence or secured enclosure to keep him contained while he runs around doing his zoomies; he knows how to climb chain-link and has gone on joy runs at the golf course I live across from. He would do best outside the city on a property where there isn't as much for him to stress over and get over-stimulated. If you are interested in learning more about him please reach out to me.
