About Mia

Beautiful Miss Mia is a spunky, athletic young terrier, who loves to play. At 5 1/2 years old, she has the maturity and training of an adult dog and the playful energy of a youngster. Weighing just 13 lbs., Mia is a compact canine with a big personality. Smart as a whip and reliably house-trained, Mia LOVES to play and will happily give her favorite toy to anyone who is willing to throw it for an exciting game of fetch. And what about tug-of-war? 'Yes! Please!' says Mia. Going for a walk also rates high on Mia's favorite activities list, and she has learned to look to her foster mom for treats and praise when other people and animals approach. Her new family will want to continue with this training. Mia does very well with other small dogs who give her space. She currently lives with three other rat terriers and has several chihuahua and terrier friends that come by to visit. Mia is an extreme cuddle bug, who craves attention and love from her humans once she feels safe with them. She also enjoys trips in the car and visiting new places. It does take this feisty pistol a little time to warm up to new humans, and if you push her beyond what she's ready to handle, she can be snappish. She's a dog who needs to be invited to do things rather than forced. If she feels cornered or if you try to pick her up without asking, she may snap or try to nip you. Because of this, Mia needs a home with no children and ideally no cats or only cats that are dog savvy. Fortunately, she is very motivated by treats and can be asked to do almost anything she needs to with a few exceptions. Mia does very well sleeping in a dog exercise pen but is not happy in a smaller kennel. She also likes sleeping with her humans. Because Mia takes her time to warm up to people and has some fear issues, she needs a home with someone who knows terriers and who has had experience with a fearful, strong-willed dog. With the right person, this little superstar will shine and show her very best side to all.
