Please read! If you are interested in me after reading about me, please visit my site, http://www.breederadoptions.org and follow the directions. The majority of the dogs we rescue, mostly breeder dogs, have lived their entire lives in less than ideal conditions so will need to be socialized, house and leash trained. Most have never lived in a house, walked on a leash, had a treat or sat in a lap. For many of them, their feet have never touched the ground after living for years on wire until they arrive at our main facility where they are evaluated, groomed and given vet care. Most of these dogs are not socialized and need to be cornered to be picked up, so are not suitable for people with physical disabilities or suffer from PTSD. They need folks who will make them the center of their world and help them learn to trust before even attempting to train. Please do not apply if you do not meet the requirements of the dogs we rescue. However, they will learn with time, love, patience and most of all, commitment. You must have an ample supply of all of these to reap the rewards of watching these very special dogs become your wonderful companion. We state any known health issues, all are altered unless there is a medical reason not to, which we will advise, any known medical issues addressed, are microchipped, are UTD on all vaccines and have been checked out by at least one veterinarian, usually two. Please do not waste your time or ours if you are not prepared to adopt within 2 weeks and you are not willing to pick the dog up at its location. Hi! My name is Shadow and I am a very scared little long haired Chihuahua mix (possibly mixed with Dachshund?) who is 2 years old and I weigh 12 pounds. I ended up at the Humane Society as part of a large scale intake. My owner had too many dogs and couldn't care for us. We were all very fearful of people and haven't been socialized. Luckily foster based rescue groups took us all in so they can work with us on our fear issues, outside of the shelter environment. I am very skittish and hard to catch. I am great with other dogs and need to go to a home with another sweet, social small dog my size. Even though I am very scared right now, I am curious, active and playful! I explored every inch of my foster home on the first day. I have a long body, like a dachshund, short little legs, and a beautiful shiny black and white coat. I must have a fenced in yard, as I am a flight risk. I am not a good apartment dog because I am terrified of the leash, not housetrained and need a backyard to do my business. I need a patient home that has experience with fearful dogs and understands it will take some time for me to learn to trust people. If you have been waiting for a little one to help, please ask for me on your application to http://www.breederadoptions.org. Love, Shadow 031621-01
