About Tanner

Tanner (fka Clay) is approximately around 1 year old, 12 lb Basenji/Chi mix perhaps and is the sweetest cuddle monster! He is awfully handsome as well, and is quite the charmer. If you want a playful dog who is also a lap dog he is for you. Tanner is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and HW negative. He is very good about his nail trims and baths too! He has been great with other small to medium sized dogs. No idea how he would be with a cat? Another smaller dog in the house would be best as he is still very young and playful and wants to play with other dogs. Tanner of course likes to play with his humans too and runs to bring toys over and jump into your lap with them. He also likes to jump on laps and cuddle during morning coffee time. He doesnot bark much and. goes in his crate with about 5 minutes for complaining (sometimes it is loud) but then settles right down and sleeps through night. He is a smart boy and is already learning that he needs to sit for his food bowl. His fosters don't think he has any experience with walking on a leash but he is learning quick. Since the leash is new , his new family needs to be very careful he doesn't try to back out of his collar or harness while he is still learning to walk on it. He appears to be housebroken, no accidents in the house or the crate and he likes the snow. Tanner has not gone to the door to signal to go out, the fosters just take him out whenever it makes sense to give him a break. He has only been outside on leash, fosters have not tried him in a fenced back yard but he is small and can jump high for his shorter legs. So a fence must be high and secure so he can't go over or slip through. Also due to his small size and Colorado's abundance of wildlife he should not be left in a backyard unattended. Fosters have not tried free roam, he goes in a crate when they leave. He is a little shy with strangers but will warm up quick. He is such a happy, wiggly guy and wants to please you that he is going to bond with his new family right away. His new family will need to continue his training as he doesn't know basic commands yet. If you are interested in meeting Tanner and want a dog that is all about cuddles, play time and naps on the couch, and who makes ridiculous smiley faces at you, then he is your guy. His fosters think older respectful children would be fine but have not tested him with kids. His new family would be home more often than not and leave him alone for a full work day.
