Courtesy Posting: SAVVY ADOPTER OR RESCUE NEEDED TO SAVE OZZY FROM THE SHELTER. HE IS EXHIBITING SIGNS OF KENNEL STRESS AND NEEDS A HERO. PLEASE SHARE EVERYWHERE AND PLEDGE TO SAVE HIS LIFE! OZZY - ID #A1964022 So LA/Chesterfield Square Shelter, Los Angeles, CA https://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=LACT3.A1964022 Ozzy is an adorable 5 yr old Black and Tan Shep unaltered male shep who weighs 76 lb and has been at the shelter as a stray since 1/14/21. He is exhibiting signs of kennel stress and really needs to be either adopted or rescued from the shelter and allowed to decompress. PLEASE CHECK OUT THESE ADORABLE VIDEOS OF HIS DOG INTRODUCTIONS: 1) OZZY meets Blake: https://youtu.be/YaSCvIjCd04 'Easy to enter the kennel. Got him to come out from the cubby as I pretended to hold the front door wide open. Once he came out and kept getting closer I was able to leash. Walks great on leash. Showed a little interest in Ozzy through the shared fence as he was concerned with my presence. We introduced on leash but neither was too interested. Eventually Ozzy gently approached Blake after we dropped leash and both sniffed each other. Both very respectful and timid. Eventually lost interest and both just kept to themselves. Very easy to put back.' 2) Ozzy meets Cindy: https://youtu.be/buRa8UlxvuU 'Both dogs are insecure. Ozzy is good at taking cues and letting dogs be. Cindy is young and awkward, inviting play, then barking or snapping. Ozzy a good sport letting her do her thing. Generally dainty meet.' Per the Shelter: 'This dog is not coping well in the shelter environment and has been showing signs of Fear, Anxiety, or Stress. Staff and volunteers have been making slow progress but we are hoping to place him with a rescue to begin his journey of decompression and finding permanent placement. He is 'At Risk' of being Red Listed. Animals on the Red List are available to LAAS New Hope Partners at a reduced rate.' Behavior Notes: 'Does not like to be leashed. Pulls away and bites the leash when you try to pull on the leash to walk the dog. Went to take this dog out for enrichment. When I approached the kennel, the dog was barking and growling, while charging and retreating the kennel door. I closed the guillotine to lock him out of his cubby. Another ACT was able to toss the leash on him, but once it tightened he began fighting and biting the leash. I knew he had come in with another dog which was kenneled next door so I leashed him to encourage this one to walk to the yard which he did. Once in yard the dog happily greeted each other and then the other dog started becoming aggressive with him so we split the yard. Once the yard was split this dog paced back and forth along the divider gate wanting to get to his buddy on the other side for the first couple minutes but then began to kind of relax and allowed me to pet him. When we exited the yard the dog began trying to fight and bite the leash again until he saw the other dog behind him. This dog walks very erratically doing circles and weaving back and forth in front of you, be careful he will trip you. Easy to return to kennel and unleash but will try to exit with you so be careful. Dog is very scared and needs more positive interactions with people. Ozzy was spinning, jumping and barking when we approached his kennel. I opened the door slightly and he raced back to his cubby. Another volunteer went to the back to coax him forward and we closed him off in front. I stepped in and he backed into the wall, was able to toss the leash over him. Once out, he began to panic a bit - a little bit of flailing and biting the leash, but we were able to move him along. In the yard he relaxed. We walked some laps. He accepted pets/scratches. Brought a young, playful female into the adjoining yard, and he looked curious and relaxed. No issues returning him, walked fine on the leash. He does his typical barking at the door as you approach but as soon as you unlock it he runs back to his cubby and stops barking as you enter. He comes forward more now to be leashed but still takes a little coaxing with gentle talk and pretending to open the front door. He's not bad on leash. The previous note shows his dog meet video where he just shared and explored the yard. He still seems insecure and often uses the handlers as somewhere to hide from the other dog. Allowed affection. Still a little flinch when you take off the leash but not bad. Just pet him a little before you do so to prevent him from being scared. Easy to exit. While doing rounds, this dog appears frustrated and anxious. Jumping from side to side at the front. Spinning and vocalizing.
