He came into the shelter as an owner surrender Previously lived with: 2 Adults 3 Children 1 Cat How is this dog around strangers? Axel is alert/cautious of strangers. He is guarded with a male figure. Axel is more submissive and responsive to women. How is this dog around children? Axel previously lived with a 11, 13 and 3 years old. Axel tolerates the children and remains to himself. How is this dog around other dogs? Axel ignores small and large dogs on walks and shows no interest. How is this dog around cats? Axel is kept separated from the cat, as the cat is not friendly. Resource guarding: Axel is not bothered when the owner places his/her and by his food bowl. Axel is not bothered when the owner takes away a toy, bone or treat away. Bite history: Axel did not bite or or scratch a person or animal in previous home. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Medium energy level, social, active Other Notes: Axel enjoys baths/grooming. Has this dog ever had any medical issues? No Medical Notes Axel came into the shelter with a history of drinking chemicals from a mop bucket. This is being treated on site at ACC. For a New Family to Know Axel is an indoor dog and sleeps in the crate. Axel enjoys playing with chew toys/bones. Axel is fed Gravy Train dry food 2x a day. Axel is crate trained and usually stays in his crate for sleeping. Axel is taken out for walks twice a day and will pull hard on the leash. Axel will respond to his name and knows when to stop. Axel will poop and pee on the cement. Behavior Notes: Axel did not allow for handling. Upon intake, he was lunging at the counselor and attempted to bite. He was brought into the care center by our canine behavior team using a double leash technique. ASSESSMENT NOTES Date of assessment: 8-Mar-2021 BEHAVIOR: Summary: Axel is highly fearful at the care center and has growled and snapped at handlers. Due to the very high level of fear he displays at the care center, he is not a good candidate for a handling assessment at this time. DOG-DOG: Summary: 3/8: When greeting a novel dog on leash, Axel lunges, barks, and growls. Upon intake, he growled, lunged, and snapped at handlers. Since that time he has been highly fearful and avoidant. BAR in kennel, wagging tail, eager for treats. Tray with panacur is completely empty apart for some remaining smeared canned food on the sides. No diarrhea present. O: EENT: Clear/bright, no ocular/nasal discharge/sneezing/coughing observed H/L: Eupneic MSI: Ambulatory x4, healthy hair coat A: r/o doesn't seem to be eating as much due to TID feedings and tasty meals containing meds P: Continue to monitor 5-Mar-2021 Blood Work Interpretation Vet Notes: 11:38 AM BAR in kennel, jumping up at front, taking treats readily. No vomiting or diarrhea noted. Normal urine present. Scant serous nasal discharge. Bloodwork reveals: Mildly increased SDMA (21ug/dL) Mild hyponatremia (139mmol/L) Mild hypokalemia (3.1mmol/L) Mild hypochloremia (103mmol/L) Mild hypoalbuminemia (2.6g/dL) r/o GI loss from vomiting vs parasitic vs early renal vs other Plan: 40# dose panacur PO SID x 5 days TID feeding Recommend repeating bloodwork once placed 4-Mar-2021
