About Luna

Luna is a 1 or 2 year old German Shepherd / American bulldog / Heinz 57 mix who was adopted as a stray almost a year ago. She is an incredibly loving companion who had a rough start in life and needs a home with a family she can love unconditionally and who can make her feel safe. She is housetrained and loves to be petted and given belly rubs and likes to kiss a lot. She knows sit, down, stay, and 'leave it.' She loves her walks, but when she comes in she settles down nicely, as close to her owner as possible. She has amazingly soft fur and seems to shed only seasonally. Her loyalty is unfailing. She usually gets along with other dogs and loves her adopted sibling rescue dog brother. She has attended doggie daycare and loved it. However, her interactions with new dogs need to be managed carefully. She can guard resources and will fight over food/toys and does not back down in these confrontations. Because of her protective nature, she needs to be carefully introduced to visitors to your home and given time to adjust to new situations. She will love and protect children who are part of your family, but attempts to herd kids who are running around or making a lot of noise and will bark/nip at them. When she was first adopted she showed some signs of anxiety and over-stimulation especially in the evenings. She takes doggie Prozac which has worked wonders and costs only pennies via Chewy. She has had lessons with two trainers to address leash reactivity and over excitement and has benefitted greatly. Her new owners should continue training with a trainer focused on positive reinforcement. Because her current family does have a lot of comings and goings and activity with visitor people and dogs they do not feel that this is the best setting for Luna in the long run. They are looking for a stable family who understands herding/protective dogs. Rehoming fee of $250 to be donated to a rescue organization of your choice. Luna is spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped and up to date on all shots. Vet records will be provided. She is located in Morris County, New Jersey. Meet and greets can be arranged.
