About Shorty

Chihuahua mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. Shorty needs a home with no children. 5 year old male Chihuahua / terrier mix, about 10 pounds. Hi everyone, I am Shorty. I am 5 years young and about 10 pounds. I am a bit of a mutt. No one knows exactly what I am, but my face looks a lot like a Chihuahua and my tail, adorably curly and often wagging with joy or excitement, might be Pug. Just know, when you get a Shorty, you get an original! My owner passed away about two years ago. Since my former owner was male, I sometimes warm up to men more quickly than women. I am a real man's man, which is often hard to find in the rescue world. But that being said, I also bond with women over time. And while I came to the rescue with a sibling, I would probably enjoy being an only dog. I love attention! Now, don't get me wrong, I like some, but not all, other dogs. I'm pretty picky about who I partner with as a puppy companion, but if I do bond with them, I bond hard, which can mean being a bit domineering. I love to snuggle with dogs and humans alike. Sitting on your lap or tucked in bed next to you is where I prefer to be. I am also pretty good at hanging out by myself if you have something else to do. I am very fond of sitting in front of a window and people watching. One of the cutest things about me is the way I try to bury my head into your chest and beg for pets. Scratch my back and I am yours forever. I truly am the sweetest little guy. I am also a bit vocal, which helps you know what I might want. I whine just a little if I want attention, food, or need to go potty. I am also really good at coming when asked. While I like chilling in the house, I also love hanging out in the backyard. On that note, I love to bark, just for fun. Even if there is nothing around (5am'|Noon'|or 11pm), I can find something to bark at. However, if you are standing right next to me or ask me to stop barking ('Shorty, no thank you'), I will'|or at least until I get distracted again. For this reason, I may not be a good apartment dog. Walks are something I really enjoy too. I am very good on a leash. I don't pull, and I stay right by your side. I have found that some of my foster siblings hate rain, but I find it refreshing. So put on your raincoat; I'm ready for any PNW day. I feel that I would do best in a home with no children as I am protective of my personal space. I also might nip or snarl a bit if I am scared. And while I might be a little reactive, I would not call myself aggressive. Overall, I do consider myself to be a fun and happy dog that can be both playful and relaxed. I would love to find out if you might be my forever home. Owner surrender. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
