About ZIGGY

Reintroducing Ziggy, formerly known as Capone! Ziggy was a 3 week old puppy when he was brought into rescue with his mother, Crystal, and siblings. He is now 5 months old and weighs about 30 pounds. Ziggy is probably a blend of Labrador, Husky, Terrier... making him a unique and special dog! He was adopted but returned to rescue due to a job change. The family found themselves unable to provide him with the time and attention he needs and wanted him to have a life full of love and attention. Ziggy is a very happy and playful pup, but is a little timid and needs a gentle guiding hand. With lots of positive reinforcement and love we know he will turn into a confident friendly dog. Ziggy is very social, and gets along with every person and dog he meets. He adores toys, especially stuffies, and will hoard them in his open-door kennel. He runs around with the other dogs, plays tug with toys, wrestles, and chases a ball. He is not overly energetic for a pup and does enjoy frequent napping in his foster mom's office or wherever, just so he is close to his people. He enjoys sleeping in the big bed but also enjoys some solitude in his kennel, although he does not like the door being closed. He regularly seeks attention and gives lots of kisses! Ziggy is a puppy and is working on house training. While he has only been in his foster home a very short time, his foster mom has noticed that he does not like being outside without his person. Being outside with him will help tremendously with his potty training and give him confidence to enjoy the outdoors on his own. As a pup, he does think slippers and sneakers are toys and he likes to steal them and stash them for safekeeping, but at least he doesn't chew them! He has not displayed any destructive behavior in the house. He is still unsure of many things, a harness, walking on a leash, riding in a car, obeying some basic commands, etc. and he will need some basic training. However, Ziggy is a smart boy and has a gentle nature and is eager to please! He learned very quickly where his dinner place was and to sit and wait for his bowl, he will sit and lay down when asked to do so, he does not lunge for treats, he is gentle in his play with smaller dogs and children, and he thrives on praise. Ziggy would love a home with a fenced in yard and a buddy to play with. He came from a home with children and is good with kids. He is up to date on shots, including his rabies vaccination, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Due to his age, he has not started his heartworm and flea prevention but should do so in about a month when he is 6 months old. He will be scheduled to be neutered at our vet when he is 6 months old and this is covered by the rescue. He needs to stay local since he still has to be neutered, and that is within a one hour drive to Pensacola.
