About Dawson

Adoption Fee: $225
American Bulldog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Dawson This gorgeous hunk of a dog is named Dawson. He's a 2.6 year old American Bulldog. He's a big boy at 80 lbs. We rescued Dawson from a kill shelter and brought him to the safety of our shelter. After having him with us for a few weeks, it seems Dawson carries a great deal of sadness. We have no idea what this boy has suffered but it doesn't seem good. Dawson is not aggressive, he's sweet and reserved. He welcomes attention and petting, but it's almost as if he feels he doesn't deserve it. He doesn't seem to be overly energetic, and his caretakers think he seems sad and somewhat lost. He'd prefer to never leave his kennel, but it's important to work with him and start building his confidence. Once out, he does well, but interestingly enough, Dawson walks more like a cat than an easy-going, confident dog. He's watchful and wary. It seems as if he was mistreated in his past and his hurt and fear of messing up runs deep. He likes to walk, but he will never go near an overlook. He is afraid and pulls in the other direction. Perhaps he fell down a ravine or off a cliff%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD| He does seem to like riding in a car. Dawson will do best as an only pet. He doesn't like cats or other dogs. Dawson would do best with a calm and experienced dog owner. He would benefit from their patience and confidence building. Dawson is sensitive and responds to gentle training, but he cannot be pushed or he retreats. This boy has so much potential and with the right person, we expect that his past hurts could be forgotten. If you are looking for an incredible young dog, wanting to let go of his past and live a happier life, give Dawson a chance. There is a loyal and wonderful companion just waiting to come out. If interested in Dawson, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted.
