About Alvin

Chihuahua / Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. Children should be age 8 and up. 1 year old male Chiweenie, about 10 pounds. What can we say about Alvin. He is the sweetest, most gentle little man. He is eager to please and ready to learn. He plays really well with our two littles and wants to snuggle up under some blankets right next to you after a day of play. He will need some time to warm up to you and to earn his trust, so you will need to be patient with him. It can take up to a week for him to relax in a new home with new people. He likes string cheese and chicken bits, and once he trusts you he will love you to bits and snuggle with you. He does have some things that someone will have to work on with him. He barks at other dogs when on a leash when out for walks, but is learning to sit and look at us when other dogs pass. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He barks mostly out of fear, so he will need some training on leash reactivity. He would benefit greatly from a puppy or young dog training course and socialization classes to help him gain his confidence. He knows sit, look at me, down, and sometimes roll over. He's also great in the car. He loves car rides and is very calm and well mannered. He does mark in our home, but it could be because we have another male dog that has done that. It is something to consider. With consistent training, he is learning to ring the bell to go out and go potty. He also loves his walks. He lives for them and gets very excited. He will make someone an amazing companion or family dog. He is good with kids who are older and respectful of him, and he loves smaller dogs. We are unsure about cats. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
