TO BE KILLED 02/28/2021 $500.00 STIPEND!! Please note that in order to qualify for the stipend, the animal cannot go to a boarding facility. Copper is a Young Boy That Can Use a Fresh Start In Life! He's a very handsome little fella who just wants his own person to love him unconditionally, and Copper will reciprocate tenfold! It's tempting to think Copper's selling point is his raw, obvious beauty, after all he truly is, but his really worth is his open heart bursting at the chance to be loved. Copper is only a year old, still a puppy, which he's all too happy to demonstrate when given the opportunity to play. Give him a toy and watch him wiggle and bounce with puppy joy. His coat is a brilliant sunshiny gold. His face is perfect, he even has an adorable and dramatic widow's peak. He arrived shaken to the core with fear. Since everyone was a stranger upon arrival, he was unsure who to trust, what was going to happen, and so wanted to disappear. Typical behavior for family pet surrenders regardless of how they are brought in. Once Copper realized he was around caring friends in the volunteers, his guard quickly dropped and was described as: soft bodied, attention seeking, no reactivity to people or dogs, remaining near staff, tail wagging and stand up greets/affection. Copper belonged to someone, while he surely misses them, he is also open to all new friends and wishing to find a forever home to love. He will be a proud and charming addition to a loving home. COPPER 108104 STATEN ISLAND ACC Estimated to be 1 year old, 60 lbs Large Mixed Breed, TAN/WHITE unaltered male Came into shelter as a STRAY Zip Code 10027 Medical Behavior: Red Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope only INTAKE DATE: 12/1/2020 PET PROFILE: Copper was brought in as a stray so we have no information on his history. When they picked up Copper, officers noted him to hard bark, growl, and lunge. When Copper's crate was brought into the care center he began growling at the counselor. He was reported to growl, snap, and attempt to bite when trying to remove him from the carrier. For his medical exam he was observed to be tense and seem aggressive and stressed requiring sedation for the exam. During his time at the care center, Copper was initially observed to growl when his kennel was approached but he warmed up to handlers, jumping up on them, nudging their hands, and leaning into petting. He is noted to mouth handler's hands with moderate pressure. Due to Copper's fearful behavior and potential for defensive aggression, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent adult home.
