TO BE KILLED 03/02/2021 Meet 2 Year Old Ridley - Or as His Friends at the shelter call him - BIG MELON HEAD CUDDLE-BUG! One look at Ridley's video and its obvious this guy just wants to be safe and loved by his own people. He really enjoys the shelter volunteers and staff; spending time with them and getting that one on one attention and affection but Ridley needs all of that good stuff in his own home. Like all shelter dogs, he wants OUT and once in his new home he will need that time to decompress. Decompression is priceless and the key to success. Ridley needs to get into an experienced and loving adult-only home soon so that his success is guaranteed. He's a beautiful hunk of a dog who enjoys great company, cuddles and love but can be a little fearful at times so he will need time to adjust to his new home and family slowly. If you love dogs as much as we do and you have the experience and patience to help guide Ridley in the right direction and would like to make him a part of your heart and home, please message our page. RIDLEY 107532 BROOKLYN ACC Estimated to be 2 years old, 60 lbs UNALTERED MALE, LARGE MIXED BREED STRAY FROM NY 11233 Medical Behavior Evaluation: 3. YELLOW Behavior Assessment Rating: NH ONLY INTAKE DATE 11/21/2020 PET PROFILE: Ridley is an approximately 2 year old, LMB dog that came in as a stray through the police. Behavior Notes: Ridley initially is nervous and tense around novel people but will he warm-up and show social behavior in the care center when his warnings (tense body, pulled back ears) are respected and staff works slowly with him. He has been observed to display kennel reactivity (hard barking, growling, lunging) when passing other dogs' kennels. Recently, Ridley bit his foster on her wrist when she attempted to offer him treats while he was engaged in another food item. The bite resulted in several punctures about half a canine tooth deep. He came in as a stray so aside from the bite we have no information on his behavior in his previous home. We recommend an experienced adult-only foster home through a New Hope partner, that is comfortable safely managing Ridley's fearfulness. He will need to adjust to his new home and family slowly, in his own time. BEHAVIOR: Other Notes: 12/5: After Ridley's walk the foster offered him a large carrot (his favorite, apparently) and then some other treats. Ridley bit the foster's left hand when she offered the other treats. She grabbed his collar with her right hand and then Ridley bit that hand. Both bites resulted in deep punctures, at least half a canine. 12/4: The foster gave Ridley a bath. She said that Ridley was initially very scared of the bath and put his mouth on her arm but did not break skin. December 2020: Notes from the foster: Ridley will resource guard a bunch of various items. With food, he will growl upon approach. If he's laying on a blanket, he will growl if you try to take it. With toys, he will growl if you try to take them. Ridley pulls hard toward other dogs. He does not redirect easily, even if the other dogs are not pleased to see him. He seems to have a lot of anxiety and fear of other people - mostly men. BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT NOTES SAFER ASSESSMENT: BEHAVIOR: DOG-DOG: Summary: Ridley was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. 11/28: Due to a lack of appropriate greeters, a gate greet is conducted. Ridley greets a novel female dog with a soft posture before soliciting bouncy play. 1/7: Ridley initially greets a female with bounces but he quickly becomes stiff and fixates. He tries to open the gate and handlers are unable to redirect his focus with high-value treats. FUN FACTS: INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Date of intake: 21-Nov-2020 Summary: Fearful, crouched when walking, tightly tucked tail MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial: 21-Nov-2020 Summary: Very nervous, shaking, whale-eye, slowly approached with coaxing. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: 2/4: Ridley was difficult to return to his kennel due to extreme kennel fighting. He would rush around the handler or between the handler's legs to continue fighting with the closest dog. Ridley would push his head under the kennel blockers and start snapping and biting at the other dog. 1/12: Upon being removed from his kennel, Ridley began kennel fighting with neighboring dogs. 11/27: Ridley was laying quietly in his kennel and became relaxed and wiggly when leashed. He walked with a soft posture in the hallway and allowed all handling for the drag leash attachment. Ridley was wary to go over puddles needing coaxing before he following the handler into the pen. Ridley solicited attention laying in the handler's lap and resting against her chest as she pets him. He greeted another handler with a neutral body watching her clean the pens then returned to the first handler seeking more attention. When the second handler sat down and called him over he jumped in her lap and received pets across his body and took treats gently. He
