About Carlton

Say hello to Mr. I Will Steal Your Girl! Carlton is a 10 yr. old Australian Shepherd/Terrier mix who found himself in a scary Tennessee shelter after his humans suffered a life altering event. In spite of his loss and finding himself in that situation, he has taken the changes like a champ! His only purpose is to please so that he gets belly rubs and can show his person how grateful he is to be in a warm and loving home. He is the very definition of a couch potato. Carlton is neutered, 46 lb., fully vaccinated, HW- and on monthly preventatives. Dr. Stribling has testified that Carlton is the 'best good boy' and very healthy. He is housetrained, unsure about crates. It has been unnecessary to crate him at all, he is not destructive to anything but his toys. Don't let that gray muzzle fool you. Though Carlton is most happy snuggled on the sofa with his person watching game shows or horror movies (he has very diverse tastes), he is also more than up for a round of tug of war, fetching his tennis ball, or wrestling with his foster sister. He adores playing with dogs his own size, but is a bit unsure about the smaller dogs. I have 3 super senior small dogs who have hearing and vision issues, but Carlton seems to understand this and simply avoids them. Though he will express displeasure if they get too close (growling, barking). He is very reactive to correction of this behavior. I was told no cats. I have a cat. Carlton has chased and barked at Jazz the cat, but he has also completely ignored her when she was right in front of him. On this subject, I would say that it depends on the cat. Mine is used to dogs coming and going, so she simply doesn't care. This is the terrier in him, if it runs it is prey. Same with squirrels, he loves him some squirrels. lol I cannot attest to how he would be with children, as I have not had the opportunity to witness it, but I would guess he would be okay with those beyond the toddler stage. He hasn't met a stranger yet that he doesn't like and is not one to jump up on or run into people. Carlton LOVES people. He craves attention and affirmation. Even at 10 yrs old, I believe he could be trained for just about anything because of his eagerness to be part of someone's life. And boy, does he deserve it!
