About Oscar

Adoption Fee: $50
Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Oscar is a 3.5 year old rescue from Puerto Rico. He is an island dog mixed with some pit/staffie. He's about 55 pounds. He was born on a friend's land after hurricane maria. I brought him home with me when he was four months old. He's neutered and current on all of his shots. He's always had excellent veterinary care. I can provide documentation of shots. He is current on flea/tick/heartworm medicine. He is microchipped as well. Oscar is an incredibly sweet guy but should be the only male dog in the household. He has always been anxious around resource guarding. Despite training, I cannot seem to get him to let go of this resource guarding behavior. He's never been neglected or abused. His situation in Puerto Rico was a great situation. He was raised with his litter mates and appropriately weaned. He has some old scarring in his ears left over from yeast infections in his ears when he was a new born. His ears can feel stiff and bumpy, but he has had no long-term issues from this. I clean his ears regularly like I do all of my dogs. I'm sure you're asking why i'm trying to re-home him if he's such a great dog? I live in a new place with other dogs. He has become fixated on another male dog (who is non-dominant and generally tries to avoid Oscar). Whenever Oscar decides that this other dog is a perceived threat to a resource, he tries to pick a fight with the other dog. The other dog will try to avoid him, but Oscar will bully him until the other dog fights back. The stress in the household has become so unmanageable. I know that Oscar is a sweet guy who is an excellent cuddler. At our old place he had a cat best friend who would wrestle with him all day long. They played so gently and so well. He's gentle with kids and other people. I've never had any issues like that with him. His fighting with the other male dog has become so intense. I know he's just as miserable as the rest of us. I hope to find a home for him where he can be the center of attention that he deserves. Please take the time to check him out. He's a good guy, but I am obviously not the right person for him.
