RESCUEME CUTS OFF MY ADOPTION PROFILES! HAMILTON (White tri-colored Cardigan Welsh Corgi) - 2 VIDEOS! Only $125 adoption!!! My adoption profiles tend to be long & very detailed. Please read the ENTIRE Adoption Profile (all the way to the FAQ) so you understand everything about this dog & if you are a good match for him/her. If you still have questions after reading the entire profile, PLEASE also read the FAQ (at the end of this profile) for your answer instead of e-mailing me the question. Most of the questions are answered there, & I'm not always able to answer all the e-mails. Hamilton was originally adopted out through our E-list Adoption Program, and was returned a couple years later for not adjusting well to the new baby. In my opinion, he looks and acts like a Purebred Cardigan Welsh Corgi. The previous adopter thinks he is a mix. There are two types of Corgis' though..... Here is a link for more info on his breed. You can judge for yourself: https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/cardigan-welsh-corgi/ Cardigan Welsh Corgi Dog Breed Information Right breed for you? Cardigan Welsh Corgi information including personality, history, grooming, pictures, videos, and the AKC breed standard. www.akc.org He needs an active person, or couple. Cardis are athletic, rugged herders that have a love for the outdoors. They thrive on mental stimulation and physical activity. He would do best with someone that will continue to train and socialize him. Preferably someone who is open to taking my advice on how to work with him. I would also like to see him go to a home that has a pool, because he LOVES the water! Please indicate if you have a pool when applying for Hamilton. Here is another video of him swimming: https://www.facebook.com/clark.princell/videos/10103688787207907/ Clark www.facebook.com And as with any 'long and low' canine, one must be cognizant of potential back issues. Avoid letting the Cardigan jump down off the bed or couch, and stairs can also be a hazard. Hamilton LOVES to play fetch! Any kind of ball is his favorite toy. The ball should be tough, like a Kong ball, as he goes through tennis balls quickly. He loves to play ball and be outside as well as just enjoys napping next to you while you work. His next favorite toy is any kind of stuffed toy. Hamilton enjoys walks and will stay by your side. He knows basic commands to sit and stay as well as being leash and potty trained. He will go into anything full speed. Hamilton loves the water and will be the last one to get out if you let him. The words he has learned so far are: Sit, Stay, Wait ESTIMATED BIRTHDAY: 6/4/17 (3 yrs. old) WEIGHT AT LAST VET VISIT: 51 lbs. CATS: Hamilton isn't great with cats although we do not own one he attempts to chase all the cats in the neighborhood. SMALL DOGS: Yes, He does well with other friendly dogs whose lead he can follow. LARGE DOGS: Yes, He will be nervous at first but adjusts nicely. KIDS: I would say he needs to be around 10 yrs and older kids. I would not recommend around small children. He has nipped at the new baby in the house. It is possibly from being a herding dog and not understanding what the baby is... But that is the only reason the previous adopters are giving him up. He would not be able to be trusted around a baby or toddlers. Keep in mind that Hamilton will more than likely live another 12 yrs. at least, so he needs to go to a home that does not plan to have any babies, and be put in a separate room if someone comes over with young kids. MEN: He tends to bond quickly with men WOMAN: Good STRANGERS: (This means you...) Initially, he's very timid with strangers at first. You will need to give him some space at first and let him come to you. If left alone he comes around on his own time. Hamilton is very shy at first, but if you let him come to you he will warm up and be your best friend. If you play ball with him, he warms up much faster. FOOD: He will eat anything. Be careful not to overfeed a dog that has a long back. It could cause back problems. CRATE TRAINING: Yes, Hamilton is crate trained and will go in it when asked. When he needs to go potty he will bark. HOUSE TRAINED: Yes, he will sit by the door when he wants to go out. LEASH TRAINED: Yes, he is leash trained. He walks calmly and will sit when you stop. A 20-30 minute walk is good for him. CAR: Hamilton loves the car. He hops right in and lays right down. OTHER ISSUES: We have noticed that Hamilton develops a limp when he over exerts himself. Approximately 45 minutes of exercise is when he starts to limp. He has seen 2 Vets for it. One Vet noticed that he may have broken a toe in the past. The vet said it could be a little bit of arthritis but it ultimately does not bother him and gets better after he rests for a few hours.
