I arrived at the shelter as an Owner Surrender on 2/18/2021. Cali has been red listed due to behavior observed. From the shelter: 'Behavior Notes: Canine was very scared at this time. Had to use animal control device to move out of receiving. Snarling, lunging, attempts to bite, ears down, hackles were up, eyes dilated. Caution at this time, needs to settle in. Use caution, hides in cubby, when approached dog is growling, barking, showing teeth. Dog is hiding in cubby, does not come out when called or when offered treats. When I slightly opened the cubby door, the dog did not move but began to snarl when he saw me. Threw in treats to try to break his focus/snarling and he did not budge. Walked away to allow him to calm down and came back minutes later. Dog was still in his cubby and I opened it slightly, slowly offered a stuffed toy. When the toy touched him slightly, dog lashed out and began biting/latching/shaking aggressively onto the toy. Use EXTREME caution with this dog, showing the potential to bite.
