Courtesy Posting: CODE RED - HAS BEEN GIVEN 48 HOUR NOTICE - NEEDS A HERO TO SAVE HIM - RESCUE/ FOSTER/ ADOPTER/ PLEDGES - HELP PLEASE! SHARE EVERYWHERE AND PLEDGE TO SAVE HIS LIFE! SLICK - ID #A1960951 Chesterfield Square Shelter, Los Angeles, So Cal https://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=LACT3.A1960951 Slick is a 6 yr old, 75 lb intact male pittie that arrived at the shelter on 12/6 as a stray. From the shelter: 'Slick has been red listed due to kennel behavior-difficult to retrieve from the kennel, exhibiting FFAS (mostly frustration) Behavior Notes: Upon approaching this dog's kennel: he immediately began barking with a low growl, eyes locked on me, rapidly wagging tail sticking straight out, 'pumping up' his stance in front of the kennel. I began talking with a soft voice, offered treats, but he would not stop his behaviors to engage me. I offered a different type of treat and he took them roughly and returned back to barking/growling. I kneeled down and opened the kennel door slightly and offered my leash for him to sniff. The dog immediately latched onto my leash and would not let go. Had to throw treats in his kennel to distract him/break his focus on me. Use extreme caution with this dog! Very aroused at the kennel-bites, grabs and holds objects at the kennel (leashes, etc). Used a toy to keep him occupied while we tried a few times to get a leash on him. Once he was out of the kennel he did do better. Retrieving him is a challenge (moved to a different location, hopefully it helps) in the yard he explored-not interest in toys, did come up to handlers, able to pet without incident. Was tense when other dogs did approach the gate. Went with another ACT to retrieve this dog for pre-S/N. This dog continues to bite at-latch on to anything that enters his kennel, attempted to distract him using another leash for him to bite on while trying to place another leash around his head. His latch his strong and he pulls with his body. Unable to safely place a lead, needed to use an ACD to take him out of the kennel and into a rolling cart. Use extreme caution when handling this dog. Went to this dog's kennel to observe kennel behavior to see if he was getting any better. Upon approaching his kennel he came up to the door quietly, but then began to bark and he jumped up on kennel door but not in an aggressive manner. He had a loose body and was wagging his tail. I put my hand up to the kennel and he sniffed it. I unlocked the kennel door and got my leash ready as I slightly opened the door and was able to leash him without him grabbing and tugging on it like he had been doing previously. He exited the kennel and was very happy to be out. He was hesitant about having to back in, but I was able to return him to his kennel and unleash without incident.'
