About Zissou

Adoption Fee: $500
Bull Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Zissou (pronounced Zee-Sue),my best friend, is a handsome, strong 4 year-old male Bull Terrier who needs a good forever home. He is smart, yet stubborn, and has a medium-high energy level. He LOVES getting 1-3 good walks a day, or a nice car ride (so he can hang out of the window, it's his absolute favorite thing to do), and he loves running on the grass at the park until he's too tired to run anymore. His next favorite thing to do is to nap on or near his human after he's tired himself out from running around, but will happily sleep in his crate if desired. He does well on a schedule, and is crate trained and house broken. He will do everything in his power to never go to the bathroom in the house, or his crate, and he's good about indicating his need to alleviate himself. Additionally, he sleeps wonderfully in his crate for 10-14 hours a night (typically he goes to bed around 6-7pm, and gets up around 7-9am, but this can be adjusted to fit your schedule), and naps in his crate as needed/wanted throughout the day. He likes to think he's a lap dog, and loves to drape himself over your lap when seated. He responds well to positive reinforcement, and very poorly to aggressive training measures, but he really is just a big, soft baby who wants to cuddle his human and go for the occasional walk, car ride, and/or park trip, he's a very simple creature with a lot of love in him. I will/can provide many of the basic necessities (kennel, bedding, harness, leashes, bowls, toys, etc.) to help alleviate the financial burden of taking ownership of a new pet. I can also provide additional pictures and videos to help give you a better idea of his personality and temperament. VERY IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY: He needs, based on 4 years of ownership, thousands of dollars in training, and observation, a single-male household. He does okay with women, but has exhibited some issues with anxiety/timidness around them, that manifests itself in him becoming defensive/stand off-ish. However, he has always done well with a single 'alpha' male presence, as he has not shown any tendency to become anxious or timid, or defensive when presented with this situation. As well as the single male ownership, I also highly suggest he not interact with young children, or other animals (dogs or cats), unless protective measures are taken (muzzle {can provide}, appropriate barriers in place, etc.). He had a poor interaction with a larger dog when he was about 2 years-old, and has never done well around other animals since. His prey-drive is strong when it comes to small creatures, specifically squirrels. He caught a squirrel once and it did not end well for the squirrel. He is not an incessant barker, but he will bark at a squirrel in a tree until the squirrel is out of sight, otherwise he only barks when playing (playful bark) or startled/scared (loud bang/knock at the door, or the like when he's sleeping), all of these occasions being fairly rare. Please ask any additional questions and I will be happy to answer, thank you.
