About Ella

Anatolian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Ella is a gentle giant. We rescued her when she was 1yrs old and she has been our Golden Retriever's best friend since. She is submissive to other dogs once she gets to know them. She loves children, and is curious about cats and has not acted aggressive towards them. We rescued her from a family who had a farm. They told us she was great with their farm animals with the exception of their chickens. She ate a few of their chickens, and we believe she was beaten for it. Her anxiousness/fear causes her to be protective and go into 'fight' not 'flight' mode. So if a person or dog walks by and she is not leashed she will charge them bark incessantly. If a dog is on a leash this is a huge problem, because they go into fight mode and Ella will fight back. If the dog isn't on a leash it doesn't seem to be an issue. Her protective/ aggressive behavior stems from her fear/ anxiety. We have worked with her on this issue quite a bit and have made huge progress. We can mess with her while she is eating and she doesn't display any aggression. She lets me clip her nails and brush her without problems too. Over the last year, due to COVID, we have moved to our lake property. Unfortunately we can't fence in our small property, and we live on the main path to the lake. For Ella's sake, we have to keep her chained up when we let her outside. We are unable to allow her down on the beach with us when others are around, for fear of how she might react, especially if there are dogs on a leash. We feel this is not fair to her, and don't want to put her in a position where she might bite someone or their dog, and then have to be put down. She belongs with someone who has a large fenced in area, or land for her to roam. We are hoping she can also find a home with another dog/dogs. Despite her anxiety/fear driven aggression, she truly is a sweet heart and is very loving. We are willing to do a trial period with her to see if she is a good fit for you.
