Thunder came in as a stray, but showed us quickly that someone has done some training with him since he already knows 'sit' and 'shake'. He is a young, powerful dog who loves to play, so to set him up for success, he needs to go to a home with no young children and a strong handler. He likes playing with soft toys, occasionally tennis balls, but he'd rather wrestle. While Thunder is learning that not everybody appreciates his rough and rowdy side, he wants to go to a home where there are regular activities-play time, hiking, and neighborhood walks. Oh, and a few toys to direct his mouthiness in an acceptable way. He is not a super athlete, so if you aren't ready for a marathon, don't worry, he isn't either-but regular neighborhood walks, hikes, play time, and enrichment is a must! Thunder has spent some time in the office with one of our Canine Care Coordinators and he was a very good boy. He didn't have any potty accidents and also relaxed by himself while she was working on the (boring!) computer. He did sneak a few kisses in though, just to make sure she remembered he was there. He walks pretty well on a leash, even around other dogs, but he does get a little scared with loud noises. As you can see, Thunder has made some dog friends while here at the shelter, and actually, we think he may be most successful in a home with another compatible dog. His favorite dogs to play with are the ones that like to run and chase and then splash around with him in the pool! He doesn't like super rough playing with other dogs-he saves that for his human friends!
