About Ginger

Adoption Fee: $300
American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Ginger is an adorable 1-year-old, smaller pit/bully mix who was dumped with her littermates in Roswell, NM. She is possibly the most loving and affectionate dog we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Once she warms up to you, she will give you kisses and snuggle with you all day long if you let her! She bonds hard and just wants to love you and be loved in return. She is truly a very special little dog. Ginger unfortunately had a pretty hard go at life until recently. On day 2 of being with us, we rushed her to the emergency vet with a very high fever, worried she wasn't going to make it through the night. The vet believes she had a severe systemic fungal infection, which had badly affected her intestines, lymph nodes, and lungs. Two months later, she has almost completely healed! However, as fungal infections can recur, she needs a forever family committed to regular vet check-ups and willing to take her back to an internal medicine specialist and undergo testing if needed. Ginger also came to us very scared, shy, and a little traumatized, but she has come SO FAR in the last two months-from a dog who wouldn't leave her safe spot on the couch to now being a happy, curious, playful pup. Although she is still fearful (at first) of unfamiliar places, people, and things, Ginger loves walks in our neighborhood, running around and playing in the nearby fenced park, having zoomies in the snow, and trying to chase the bunnies and squirrels. This transformation was possible thanks to the help and companionship of her doggie foster sister, so Ginger needs a confident dog sibling in her forever home who can continue to show her that the world isn't such a scary place. Ginger is house broken but does have some anxiety around potty time. She occasionally goes while on a walk, but primarily likes her safe spot in the yard. She has also exhibited some separation anxiety, but she now does well for up to 4-5 hours so long as she is with our dog and has something to keep her busy. She is very dog friendly. She loves all other dogs and trusts them more than humans. She is mostly cat friendly. She completely left our cat alone for the first 2 months but started trying to chase him lately; she can be redirected pretty easily. Ginger would do best in a home with older or no kids. She has been fearful of all younger kids with have encountered on walks. Kids possibly ,definitely no young kids. She's terrified and trembles when she sees kids under 8 ish. I think older kids could be ok if they are calm and understanding. If you think you are the right forever family for Ginger, apply at https://www.fromforgottentoforever.com/adoptionapplication/ We want to find the best possible home for her where she will get the patience and unconditional love she deserves. The love she gives is so worth it!
