About Harvey

Hello! My name is Harvey, and I'm a very handsome American Foxhound mix with love in my heart and a bounce in my step. If my very handsome (and not at all goofy) face caught your eye, but you've heard rumors about hounds, let me set the record straight. One of the biggest misconceptions is that we need acres of land and hours of exercise. Would I love those things? Absolutely! (Seriously, if you have acres of land and hours of time, adopt me!) But a long morning walk filled with interesting smells is usually enough to carry me through the day. Also, I'm kind of a couch potato, so snoozing in the afternoon is one of my favorite pastimes. If you give me daily exercise, mental stimulation, and play with me, I'm pretty much good to go! Hounds have a reputation for being independent and stubborn, and I'm no exception. But here's a secret: If you understand that I need consistent leadership, positive training and gentle correction, you will be rewarded with an affectionate, happy, goofy, sweet, and mostly well-behaved dog. It takes a little effort, but I'm absolutely worth it. Just ask my foster mom, who will tell you that once you know what makes me tick, it's impossible not to love me. My perfect home would have a big, fenced backyard to explore and a playful canine companion-preferably not too small because I'm a big fella. Since life isn't perfect, I could also thrive with an active person who likes walking, hiking, or running. As long as I get appropriate physical and mental exercise and lots of love, I'm pretty adaptable. Because I was bred to sniff and chase, I'm not suited for off-leash activities (including dog parks) and I'm not great with young children or cats. The things I am great at include: walking nicely on a harness, sticking my head out the car window to let the wind blow my ears, basic obedience cues, napping on the couch while my person watches TV, and belly rubs (getting, obviously, not giving-that would be weird). I'm crate trained, potty trained, heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and did I mention that I'm very handsome? You can learn even more about me at Instagram.com/adorkableharvey.
