About HAPPY

American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Handsome HAPPY (ID #A1874675) will be much happier when he's out of the shelter and in a loving home. He has been in the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, since December 7, when his 'family' relinquished him, because they are unable to care for him any longer. They described 8-year-old HAPPY (he was with the family for 6-1/2 years) as *exuberant; *he enjoys toys and playing fetch; *he's loving; *he may be destructive when left alone in the house, but he's okay in the yard (he may not be housebroken?). A shelter employee has this to say about HAPPY: 'BEHAVIORAL (Tue, Dec 22, 2020 10:55 AM) On approach, this dog was at the front of his kennel wagging tail and appeared very eager when he saw the leash. I opened the kennel door a crack and presented the leash loop, but he backed away from the opening. I entered the kennel. Initially he kept back a few feet from me but after a moment or two he began intensely sniffing my uniform and the leash. When I tried to loop him, he ducked and dodged a couple times. Once the leash was on, he became very wiggly again. Moderate puller. Not interested in dogs barking at him from their kennels. Once in the yard, he immediately urinated and defecated. Then he ran zoomies for a few minutes. Afterward, he became very attached to me. He sat next to me and leaned against me. He let me pet him all over. When I picked up the tennis ball, he got momentarily excited, but when I tossed it, he did not even track its movement. Even when I was petting him and keeping his atention on me, if there was a PA announcement, he would run to that end of the yard looking for where the noise came from. Very interested in pedestrians walking by. He would follow them along the fenceline but did not bark at them. Very easy to releash and rekennel.'
