About FINKEL

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

TO BE KILLED: 02/17/2021 40-Pound Teeny Pup FINCKEL is looking for a GOOD HOME!! :) A volunteer writes: Finckel, Finckel little star, how we wonder what you are! This twinkling little star is Finckel and he's the most precious pocket pibble. The first thing we notice about this 3-year-old cutie is his boop-able nose. Then, we see that he waddles over on his adorable webbed feet-paws. But the best part about Finckel is his sweet, endearing personality. Like a lot of dogs, he's a little bit nervous at the shelter, but with a slow approach and his favorite treats, we soon see that Finckel just wants to love and be loved! We don't know much about his past. He tends to be a little fearful, but puts on a brave face and greets people with a wiggly body and a fluttery tail that seems to ask: 'Are you my friend?' He had that same soft posture when the Behavior Team introduced him to other dogs. Since he needs a little extra TLC, the ACC recommends a home without kids under 5 years old. Don't miss the chance to make Finckel your BFF for life! FINCKEL@BROOKLYN ACC Finckel ID#98788, 3 years old, 42 lbs Came into shelter as a STRAY Location: STRAY FROM NY 11237 Large Mixed Breed, BLACK/WHITE unaltered male MEDICAL BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: 2. Blue BEHAVIOR RATING: LEVEL 3 I HAVE BEEN RETURNED :'( 1/20/2021 SAFE - ADOPTED 8/15/2020 initial INTAKE DATE 7/20/20 BEHAVIOR HIGHLIGHTS: For a new family to know: Finckel is an excitable dog with a very high energy level. The owner said that one thing he loves about Finckel is that he is very, very playful and is very goofy when he plays. He also loves to snuggle at night when he is feeling tired. His favorite thing to do is to run in a big open space and play with toys. When you're home, he tends to want to stick in the same room as his owners and play with toys. He likes balls, stuffed toys, chews toys, and bones. He also likes to play tug and chase. Finckel has been kept indoors only. He will eat both wet and dry food of Purina brand. He eats 4.5 cups of dry food per day, twice a day. His favorite treats are duck feet. Finckel is very well housetrained and will go to the bathroom outside in the cement or grass. When left alone in the house, he becomes anxious and may destroy items in the house or chew on furniture. Finkel's owner tried to crate train him, but he didn't do well. He knows to sit, comes, down, stays, and shake. He is used to brisk walks on a leash. When off-leash, he will run away and does not have a recall. LEVEL 3: No children (under 13): Due to reported resource guarding the Behavior Department recommends Finckel would be best set up to succeed in a home with adults only. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the behaviors that Finckel has shown during playgroup (see DOG-DOG SUMMARY) and reported behavior from the previous owner, we feel that Finckel should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Finckel associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats. Due to Finckel's deterioration in the care center, Finckel will need to find a forever home that will be able to support his continued training and care in a quiet, home environment. Finckel has started displaying high levels of leash biting and snapping at handlers during his walks and interactions. The stress of the care center environment has resulted in Finckel licking the kennel walls and bars, despite in kennel enrichment being provided. Finckel will need an adult-only home with no other pets, that has experience with resource guarding, lack of basic manners, anxiety, on-leash reactivity and understands decompression periods.
