About KUMQUAT

Beagle / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

This cutie is KUMQUAT (ID #A1965808), a 1-year-old cutie (yeah, I already said that), who came into the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, as a 'stray'. He just became available for adoption, so there is no history. But I was able to spend some time with KUMQUAT, along with a shelter employee, and this note was logged about our interaction: 'BEHAVIORAL, GOOD BEHAV (Mon, Feb 8, 2021 3:41 PM) On aproach, he was huddled against the back corner of his cubbie trembling, growling and barking. I shut the guillotine door and went to the cubby side. He was easy to leash from inside the cubby. Once on leash, he stayed close to me. No pulling. I removed his harness. Kenneled dogs barking at him startled him and he walked with a tucked tail. Once in the yard, he was jumping on me to solicit attention. I left him to play with volunteer Sherry who reported that he spent most of his time exploring the yard and keeping his distance from her. She was able to leash him and he grew more affectionate. By the time I came back to the yard, he was jumping on me and trying to kiss my face. He let me pet him all over. He posed for pictures and he let me pick him up. Easy to releash and rekennel.' Yes, KUMQUAT was a bit aloof, initially, and I observed him attempting to climb the fence, which he probably did at his home. When I caught up to him, I was able to put the leash on him and he came and sat next to me for a little bit. KUMQUAT is still a puppy and whoever adopts him should expect that he'll need a lot of exercise, training, and a very high wall. Of course, he should be kept indoors and taught indoor manners. KUMQUAT - ID#A1965808 My name is Kumquat and I am a male, tricolor. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years and 0 months old. I weigh approximately 46 pounds.
