About CARL

Adoption Fee: $225
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

***NEEDS FUREVER HOME*** Currently in Boise CARL is a 5-year-old German Shepherd blend who was found stray and very underweight (68 lbs) by the City of Stockton, California. He was then given a deadline to find a rescue. FFAR stepped up and became a new transfer partner with the California shelter and had him transported to Idaho. CARL solicits affection from people and is non-reactive to other dogs. He is treat-motivated. He is house-trained. We think that he would be fine around kids as he is calm, does not jump, and has a soft mouth. The rescue was able to have CARL's hips X-rayed during a full vet exam. He is very healthy, and even got the 'all clear' sign to start exercises (e.g., walk up inclines and walks in sand) to strengthen his rear area. He has mild dysplasia in the right hip, but causes him no pain or limitations on exercise. Also, no surgery is indicated. CARL was fortunate enough to receive a kennel break for a few days by another couple of his volunteer foster angels. We learned that he enjoyed decompressing in a room with a view and learned how to use the steps to get comfy on a bed. We also captured him playing by himself with a ball (see video). CARL was eventually successfully integrated into the foster family's pack of four dogs. (see pawsome videos). CARL does best with slow/proper introductions with new dogs. 'Just today he decided that the couch is worth a try...and he is a fan LOL. He is getting more and more loving and comfortable laying stretched out in the same room as everyone. He is an amazing guy and definitely flourishing. Clearly hasn't been in a house before...everything is new and interesting. He's figuring it out though with patient redirection A bit more prey drive has come out as he has gotten more comfortable.' A furever home that includes a patient owner and no small pets would be best for CARL. Medium to large dogs are OK with slow and proper introduction.
