Please know that we will ask for a vet reference. Kaia is a beautiful girl whose current caregiver took her in temporarily as her owner was no longer able to care for her. Shortly after taking Kaia in, Kaia started to go blind, and her caregiver spent over $2,000 to try to help her. Unfortunately, Kaia is now permanently blind. She has had Kaia for more than two years, but she is a single mother and does not have the financial resources to provide for Kaia, and her former owner does not want her back. Kaia's caregiver has reached out to other rescues with no luck. She is very much hoping we can help! 'We have tried to care for her but it is too much for us.' Name: Kaia Age: Unknown, but estimated to be born in 2015 Breed: Husky Sex: Female (not spayed) Location: Berrien County, MI Vet Info: Kaia is not spayed. She is not up to date on vaccines and has not had a recent heartworm test. Kaia weighs about 60 pounds. In April 2015, Kaia was diagnosed with glaucoma in both eyes - chronic right eye/ subacute left eye, and uveitis (inflammation inside the eye) both eyes. Owner Info: Kaia is an indoor dog with run of the house. She is not housebroken or leash trained. Kaia is good with men, women, and older children, but can be possessive of toys, so a home with smaller children is not recommended. She has bitten and snapped at a smaller dog over her toy. Kaia's caregiver gave us more information about her sight: 'She is completely blind. The vet could not determine an absolute cause but said it was most likely genetic. It happened very suddenly, she was in a lot of pain at the time, and it seemed like glaucoma because her eyes swelled and had to be drained. Her eyes are filmy white now and she has no movement with them.' Kaia adapts well to new situations and her caregiver gave us more details: 'She gets a long very well and has the run of the backyard. I think because she went blind as a puppy she adapted better than adult dog would have.' Kaia's caregiver wants us to know what a sweet dog she is, and how well she'll do in the right home! 'She is a sweet dog and with the right adult or older children, she really beams. She lives attention and will play she just requires attention and consistency.' **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
