About Kato

Siberian Husky mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Truck rides, swimming holes, and fresh air! Calling all farmers and rural dwellers! Here's a dog who'd love a home away from it all, just like you. Kato is a 4.5-year old, 55-pound male Siberian husky mix located in East Taunton, MA. He's smart as a whip, knows his basic cues, and capable of so much more as a treat-motivated learner. He knows sit, down, stay, paw, and other-paw, so he's off to a good start. The Husky in Kato is evident. He is highly athletic and would love space and opportunity to run free. He has a strong need for work and activity. He has experience riding alongside a bicycle and has worked on mushing skills and wearing a harness. The reason he needs an environment away from the city or 'burbs, is because he has fear-based aggression toward other dogs, especially while being walked on leash. He's not suitable for dog parks or outings. Meeting new people also takes time for him to warm up. Currently, Kato has a loving home, but his owner is often away from home and doesn't have the time for addressing his fear. Rehoming is the best for Kato to thrive instead of being stressed out and unsure of how to handle situations that he's uncomfortable with. Kato hopes his rescue hero will let him take it slow while he gets used to his new family and home. He is more settled when there's less going on and fewer things that triggers him. And though he is sweet and cuddly with people he knows, a new home will be a big change for him. The remedy is really not that hard. Time, patience, structure, continuity, exercise, and of course love. Small animals beware! Kato has a strong drive to catch you so he should not live with indoor cats or small critters. At this time, he's also best as an only dog and an only 'child.' His prey drive and discomfort around commotion is not a good match for kids and he is not experienced with them anyway. Kato would greatly benefit from a good-sized fenced-in yard so he can run free, play fetch, search for scattered treats, and just plain dog it. A rural or spread out neighborhood is preferred. If Kato won the lottery, he'd want a SWIMMING POOL! In summary, here's what this special needs boy needs: Confident owner with Husky/working dog experience Help to overcome his behavioral issues Single family home with a fenced-in yard Plenty of exercise Adult-only home Be the only pet It may seem like a lot to ask, but Kato is worth it!
