IS THEIR A PERSON THAT FITS THIS GIRLS NEEDS TO HELP NELLIE BEFORE ITS TOO LATE HERES HER STORY Facts About Me Breed Rottweiler Color Black - with Brown, Red, Golden, Orange or Chestnut Age 6 years old, Adult Size (when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) Weight (current) 85 lbs Sex Female Pet ID My Info Spayed Shots Up to Date House-trained Purebred Needs Experienced Adopter Not Good with Kids My Story Meet Nellie! She is a female Rottie who appears to be purebred with long hair (no DNA testing has been done to confirm). Her past is very much unknown to us but we assume not very positive. She was saved by a determined bunch of people from a rural NC shelter hours before being euthanized. Behavior: Nellie shows very outward fear based aggression toward any person within a 5 ft radius of her - growling, barking, lunging, etc. Once she accepts a human as her handler, she's very sweet and loving! She will wiggle her little tail to show you her excitement and prance at the sight of a leash. She has been positively trained with her foster family to wear a muzzle and gets super excited ever time she sees it! She is a dream to walk on a leash and does very well with obedience - sit, stay (even leaving the room!), place, bed, kennel, down (to get her off the couch, bed, etc.). She's very, very smart and very eager to please. She shows very little resource aggression - when she has had enough of you throwing the ball she'll guard it and growl. Just means she doesn't want to play anymore. Vetting: Taking Nellie to a vet is a challenge because of her fear, but she did go to the vet twice and both were very positive experiences! Nellie is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. The vet did find that her left knee has arthritis in it and she will need future pain management for it. In the meantime, it doesn't slow her down and we will work on getting another 5 or so lbs. off of her to help her longer term. Her perfect home is a quiet home where she can establish a 'safe zone' and build her confidence around people. Applicants must be experienced with fear based aggression in a dog and positive reinforcement methods to continue her training. Professional training should be sought out if needed. Young kids are a definite no, other dogs are not preferable but with the right person/dog an exception could be made. Nellie has her best years ahead of her! Can they be with you?
