About Gilbert

Do you love wonderful things that come in tiny packages? Do you enjoy watching humming birds flutter about? Do you have a tender heart and gentle hands? If so, you might be the right person for Gilbert! Teeny-tiny Gilbert is a Rat Terrier/Toy Fox Terrier mix with a small 8-lb. stature and a big heart just waiting for someone to love him. It's possible that 8-9-year-old Gilbert was mistreated in his life before rescue, as he is very cautious about hands coming at him. He flinches or jumps when touched and he appreciates slow, gentle hand movements; therefore, he would not do well in a home with young children. Gilbert is nervous in new situations and when meeting new people. However, he is incredibly food motivated and he warms up pretty quickly for tasty treats. Gilbert is reliably house trained and sleeps quietly in a crate through the night. He walks nicely on a leash and he rides well in his travel crate in the car. Gilbert tolerates small, respectful dogs, but he reacts fearfully towards large dogs. He would prefer to be an only dog, as he does not appreciate sharing his humans' affection with others.
