American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

DODGER NEEDS A HERO HES BEEN LET DOWN AND OUT INTO TO MANY WRONG HOMES NOW HIS LIFE IS IN DANGER Name: DODGER Age: 8 years Breed: Pit mix Color: Gray and white Weight: 80 pounds Microchipped: No Neutered/Spayed: Yes Vaccinations: Current to December 2021 Heartworm Status: Negative Other Dogs: Selective, NO SMALL DOGS (bite history) Cats: NO, loves to chase them Kids: NO, bite history Behaviors/Modes of communication: Dodger is very affectionate and loves to kiss and cuddle humans (if you've had the misfortune to spill a milkshake all over your face, he is more than happy to clean it all up for you). He is good with all humans he has met outside of the kennel (at the vet and at the store). He is, however, very territorial and feels that it is his job to keep strangers out of the kennel. He will jump up on his kennel door and bark ferociously at strangers when they walk into the building. If let out of his kennel when someone he doesn't know is present in the building, he WILL bite. Otherwise, Dodger is not highly vocal. He's friendly and charming, and he has the medium-low energy level typical of his age. Most of Dodger's time is spent contentedly in his room, with his pile of blankets and his chew toys. A bone stuffed with peanut butter is his favorite. If there's an alpha in the next-door kennel, Dodger may fight with him over the top of the partition. History: Dodger was pulled from a local shelter in early 2020. He was heartworm positive and reported to be okay with other dogs and cats. He was heartworm treated at the end of February. Soon after, another dog attacked Dodger. The fight was separated with no serious injuries to either dog. He was then sent to a NJ rescue that put him into a foster home with young children. He was allowed free roam of the house immediately, and he bit a young girl. It was reported that the girl received stitches, but severity of the injury was not stated. He was then sent to another NJ foster home in which he was allowed to be loose in the house with cats and chihuahuas. Upon getting frustrated by the cats' evasive maneuvers while chasing them, he snatched up a chihuahua. The rescue was reportedly informed that he would not be eligible to be adopted in-state, and so he was returned to us on March 3rd. A few weeks after his return, another dog accidentally got into his yard. That dog attacked Dodger, resulting in cuts on his head and rear legs. Dodger was not the aggressor, but it seemed like it solidified Dodger's idea that he doesn't want to be around other dogs. He often goes straight to other dogs' kennels when let out of his own to bark and snap at them. This is especially true for small dogs. In July 2020, Dodger was taken to the vet to have a small tumor removed from his prepuce. This tumor was biopsied. The lab returned a diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma. No additional tumors have developed since July. Dodger was recently seen for a bi-annual exam and 'golden years' bloodwork. The results of these were normal and the only negative report was that Dodger had gained a few extra pounds. He loves to eat, and he loves treats (and we're typically too indulgent)!
