About Ozzy

American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Name: OZZY Age: 3 years Breed: Pit mix Color: Beige and white Weight: 65 pounds Microchipped: Yes Neutered/Spayed: Yes Vaccinations: Current to July 2021 Heartworm Status: Negative Other Dogs: Probably selective Cats: Unknown, would not recommend Kids: Unknown, would not recommend Behaviors/Modes of communication: Ozzy is very well-behaved with all females that I've seen him around, but seems to be fearful of many (but not all) males. He starts growling upon seeing most men. When he's inside his kennel, he growls and barks at everyone. When his kennel door is open, he has no problem with me going into his room, petting and hugging him, leaning over him. When I open his kennel door, I have to let him know it's time to go outside or he will linger in his room. When he's outside he likes to go exploring around the yard. But his favorite thing is to help me clean the outdoor runs. He likes to jump into each run and check to see if any other dog has left a toy outside. If he finds a toy, he lays down near where I'm working and chews on it while keeping his eye on what I'm doing. He listens well, pays close attention to the humans, and is very smart. He is very vocal inside the kennel, but not when outside. Ozzy gives mixed signals regarding dog-friendliness. When in his kennel, he will fight with others though the partition. When outside, he approaches most through fencing seeming friendly. With some he seems like he wants to play, and some he just ignores. When greeting me, he loves to jump really high toward my face. Once he calms down, he'll stand up and give me hugs. Ozzy is medium energy. It only takes him a few minutes to calm down. History: Ozzy's history before being taken to the shelter is unknown. Because he is well-behaved, nondestructive, and pays such close attention to the humans, I do believe he's lived in a home. I believe he was a woman's dog and that a male partner was abusive to him. Ozzy was fostered outside of my kennel for about a week. During that time, he lived with a medium-sized dog, a small dog, a man and a woman. He was comfortable with both humans, and seemed to be comfortable with the dogs. After being in the home for a week, Ozzy attacked the small dog and thus was returned to us. During the week he spent at the foster's, Ozzy was introduced to children and a son-in-law who is a large man. He was reportedly uncomfortable with these visitors.
