About LUNA

***IN TRIAL-ADOPT HOME*** Currently in Boise Meet (1 year old, 31-pound Idaho Shag/cattle dog/Airdale mix named LUNA. She is a sweet, loving, playful, gorgeous pup that appears friendly to most every person and dog that she meets. She loves attention. She would really enjoy someone home a lot. LUNA is currently in boarding, but gets to play off-leash in playgroups with all the other dogs. LUNA walks well on leash and can go for miles. She enjoys playing with toys. LUNA is crate-trained. She is very quiet in her crate. She even is good with baths! From time spent in sleepover homes, we have learned that LUNA is very smart and understands boundaries quickly. When she wasn't over-stimulated while walking, she would stop and sit when the handler stopped. Unfortunately, she gets distracted easily by all the stimuli and then pulls on the leash. One of the foster homes was able to train her to recall well on off-leash foothill walks. LUNA has some undesirable behaviors that will need to be managed... She has a habit of counter-surfing, so will need to be trained to stay out of the kitchen. Although surrounded by appropriate toys in one foster home, she found clothing to chew on and ruin. After a week in a foster home using the doggy door to relieve herself, she reverted to going in the home. This could have been a reaction to the other dog in the home that never accepted her fully. We are looking for a home with an experienced leader and a young, balanced, furry playmate for LUNA. We are also thinking that she may have some herding instincts in her so a home with a job (e.g., ranch) may be a good fit for LUNA. Even using a Ruffwear dog pack to carry water in during hikes may help her focus. The terrier in her doesn't make her a good fit for chickens. We have not yet had her around cats. The homeowners thought that she was abused and abandoned, but they were unable to catch her. They were worried that she would freeze during the night, so another family member brought over a little dog to help catch her. They were able to get her indoors. They made several posts and called local shelters, but no one came forward to claim her.
