About Martha

Adoption Fee: $250
German Shepherd / Great Pyrenees
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Martha May is a ten-year-old, 90-lb German Shepherd mix currently being fostered in Sarasota, FL (Sarasota County). She is a fantastic dog, has the sweetest demeanor and does not have a care in the world. She enjoys a good head scratch and will nuzzle you to say, 'More please!' She does great with other dogs and gets along with cats. She loves a good chew toy and almost always has a ball in her mouth. While she plays well with others, she can also be protective of her toys when other dogs are around. She is working on not guarding her toys and releasing a toy when asked. Martha is an older girl, but she does not let her age slow her down. She enjoys going on walks and chasing lizards in the backyard. She walks well on the leash, comes when called, and sits when asked. She is currently working on her stay command. Martha is a nap queen and is perfectly content sleeping the day away at your feet or in her own bed. She does have a bit of arthritis in her back that makes her a little bit stiff and unstable after being stationary for an extended amount of time. She does not show signs of being in pain and once she gets moving her stability improves. Martha is currently on a joint supplement which helps. Martha can get a little excited about food and is working on taking food gently from the hand. Because of this, she would do best in a home without small children. Martha is heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment. She is adoptable but will not be moved into her forever home until she has completed treatment. Martha 90 lbs of pure love and is looking for a forever home that will fully love her in return. She is house trained, crate trained, and up to date on vaccines. As a senior, Martha's standard adoption donation is $250, but $150 for a senior adopter 65+ through our Seniors for Seniors program.
